Foamular V. Polystyrene

Applying Foamular into Green Roof garden systems was the key topic at a seminar presented to the Newcastle branch of Australian Institute of Architects.

On the eve of February 23, Foamular Product Manager Mike Nagle passed on his knowledge about the environmental benefits of green roofs by using Foamular Insulation material to guarantee maximum energy efficiency in the structure of Green Roof Gardens. It was an informative presentation, as the assembled architects began to recognise why Foamular continues to grow and distinguish itself as the favoured brand when it comes to Extruded Polystyrene Insulation.

The Chairman of the Newcastle Division, Australian Institute of Architects attended the event and was particularly impressed on the information offered about Foamular and insulation:

‘Mike provided an excellent presentation at the New Technologies in Building Products Seminar. It was very informative and provided both good background information on the Insulation industry as well as on specific Austech insulation products.’

Green Roof GardensAustralia has seen an increase in popularity when it comes to green roofs over the past 10 years. Leading business groups and Australian wide city councils have been dynamic in promoting the benefits of green roofs since 2008. As well as the environmental advantages, green roof gardens display architectural prowess, brilliance and are physically appealing to the eye.

Green Roofs are just one of the many applications of the Extruded Polystyrene Foamular. As more architects and builders are opting for Foamular over its competitors, it has become evident that Foamular is superior in the reduction of moisture absorption, its high R values and ability to maintain its thermal and physical properties.

Foamular is exclusively available throughoutThere is a common misunderstanding amongst the general public when it comes to Polystyrene. There is a great difference between Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Extruded Polystyrene (XPS). Expanded polystyrene foam is commonly known for being used as disposable coffee cups or cushioning material in packaging. These are usually white and made up of expanded polystyrene beads. This is different from the Extruded Polystyrene process used to construct Foamular

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene
Many engineers, builders, architects and home owners are choosing Foamular due to its strong but lightweight nature, high compressive strength, density and thermal resistance. Foamular presents advanced long-term thermal performance and outstanding water resistant properties through its high density cell structure.

Tough and Durable
Foamular is a closed cell insulation board, which makes it virtually 100% moisture resistant. Normally when insulation comes into contact with water it loses its thermal abilities, but even when covered with ice or surrounded by moisture, Foamular still preserves its thermal and physical properties making it perfect when faced with extreme surroundings.

High Performance
Foamular Extruded Polystyrene has greater R-values than most other products at comparable thicknesses. Just 25mm of Foamular achieves R0.89 and 100mm achieves R3.57. Foamular is assured to uphold its physical properties and a minimum of 90% ‘R’ value for a period of 20 years. With a high R-value and the confidence of a significant guarantee, Foamular is recognised for its efficient insulation advantages.

Environmentally Friendly
Foamular is a CFC free insulation product with high R-values. Using Foamular limits external temperature exchange, reducing internal temperature fluctuations, lowering the need for synthetic air conditioning and electricity consumption. Meaning less energy is consumed in maintaining building thermal efficiency, consequently leading to less polluting emissions in the environment.
The flexibility of Foamular can be applied to suit an array of needs including:
-          Agriculture
-          Storage
-          Construction
-          Model Building
